Sweetwater, FL – Have you ever considered running for office?
The City of Sweetwater will have elections for Mayor and three Commissioner seats in May and we’ve put together a list of requirements and guidelines for registering and running your campaign in Sweetwater.
Qualifying
According to the City Charter, in order to register as a candidate for office in Sweetwater, you must have resided in the City of Sweetwater for at least 6 months prior to qualifying as an elector. An elector, is defined by the city charter as the following:
Any person who is a resident of the city, who has qualified as an elector of this state, and who registered with the department of elections of Metropolitan Miami-Dade County in the manner prescribed by law shall be an elector of the City of Sweetwater.
Residents can register to vote in the May 2015 elections by April 13th via the Miami Dade Elections Department.
Qualifying Fees
Candidates for Commissioner must pay a $75 qualifying fee to the Supervisor of Elections, and candidates for Mayor must pay a $250 qualifying fee. Candidates unable to pay the qualifying fee may also file a qualification petition of 150 registered voters residing in Sweetwater, along with an affidavit stating the candidate’s inability to pay.
